Quick Fall Fashion Forcast

Quick Fall Fashion Forecast

Here are few trends on what's hot, when it's getting nippy.

TIP: It's best to try and purchase big ticket items out of season if your looking to save a few bucks. Look to purchase boots in summer and winter jackets in the summer. Only purchase timeless pieces that aren't trendy so you aren't buying out of style items.

-Masculine military inspired jackets, blazers, pea coats, bomber jackets. They can be knee length, hit at your waist or cropped.

-Layering, lots of layering.
Feel free to wear a sweater over a collard shirt, sticking out from the bottom, a scarf, belt and a blazer. Wear it all girl, mix and match fabrications, patterns and colors too, have fun with it.

-Lot's of embellishments on jackets, handbags, and footwear, NOT ON PANTS. (buttons, zippers, grommet, and pockets are stylish).

-Structured men's smoking blazers.
They are cute with anything, Urban Outfitters has a slew of cutsie blazers available online.

-Heavy layered knits.
Knits are great to snuggle up and be warm this fall, hats, mittens, scarves, dresses and sweaters are stylish and chic. Don't skimp on the quality of your knits, a cheap knit is easy to spot. Spend a few dollars and keep it for seasons to come.

-Heather grey, camel, black, gold, silver, and olive greens.
Earthy tones are a very intelligent buy, they can be worn more then one season since they aren't a “trend color”, and you can pair them with nearly any other color.

-Feminine silhouettes on the bottom, structure form up top.
Don't be afraid to pair a flow y sexy skirt with a men's tailored jacket up top.

What's up with those pants?

What's up with those pants?

For as long as I can remember being able to purchase my own clothes, I can remember having trouble finding “my size”. Typically, I walk through the juniors department picking up sizes simply by eyeballing the fit and cut rather then looking at the size on the tag.Truthfully, because really it has no bearing on how they will fit. I generally walk into the fitting room hauling 10 pair of jeans with in a range of 3 different sizes. This is NORMAL ladies.

A size 0 in one brand may fit the same as a size 3 in another. A size small might fit simillarly to a size 6 in another brand name. So lett's get to the bottom of the whole sizing delema right now shall we ladies?

Here are a few myths that I am going to debunk and clarify:

  • Juniors sizes are expressed as odds: sizes; 1, 3, 5,7 etc. They might even have half sizes available TRUE.
  • Misses sizes are expressed as evens: sizes; 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. TRUE. Please note that misses sizes also allow for more of a “womanly shaped figure”, so if you have a rather feminine tushy or a set of sassy hips JUNIORS ARE NOT FOR YOU!
  • European sizes are measured at the widest part of the hips. TRUE. Example: If your hips measure 34'' at the widest part of you, then you are looking to buy a size 34 jeans (give or take a few inches for your tushy) a size 34 jean then translates to an American size 0-2.
  • European sizes are at least one whole size larger then american sizes. TRUE. They call American sizes “vanity” sizes to make the shopper feel better about purchasing a larger size. What ever. See sizing chart below.
  • American Plus sizes start at a size 14 TRUE.
  • Petite sizes fit skinnier people better. FALSE. Petite sizes are meant to fit shorter women, not skinnier women. There can be plus sizes in petite clothing lines also. The main difference between Misses and Petite size clothing is the hems and in-seams are generally shorter. Thus allowing for a shorter leg, not a slimmer leg. If you are finding it hard to find pants that fit due to the fact that you are very slender, try out juniors sizes. Petite sizes aren't going to solve your problem, sorry Doll.

Above is a woman's general sizing chart that will help you get a round-about idea of what sizes are best suited for you. The light yellow highlighted rows are what's generally relevant in American department stores. Try on one size smaller and one size larger then what this chart claims you wear.... You might be surprised by how well a size larger fits ya.

Tips on how you know your jeans don't fit well:

  • If you have to lay down to zip them up -TOO SMALL
  • If you have double bum syndrome -TOO SMALL
  • If you have muffin tops -TOO SMALL
  • If they gap at the waist -TOO LARGE- but if they fit well on your legs and hips you might be “between sizes” and then you should keep them and just get the waist altered a bit to fit.
  • If the crotch hits your leg a good 3 inches below your natural crotch -TOO LARGE.
  • If they bunch or gather at the crotch in any way -NOT A GOOD FIT. This delicate area on a woman should never be bulky and lumpy - come on now ladies.
  • If the jeans drag on the floor while wearing heals -TOO LONG. Pay the extra 5 bucks to get them hemmed and look classy not trashy.
  • Jeans that show what type of underpants you are wearing -TOO LOW.
  • Mom jeans NEVER LOOK GOOD. These are the jeans that give every woman a pancake butt, and a belly pooch.
